Mr. Lawrence submitted this trip report for the Annapolis Jamboree:

A small but enthusiastic group of 8 Scouts and 6 leaders traveled down to Annapolis, MD for a great weekend of camping RIGHT on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay at YMCA Camp Lett.

Tommy, Joey and I went down on Friday afternoon to set up camp in the daylight and make sure we chose a good spot. Tommy picked a perfect spot right on the water separated by the rest of the troops by a small road. It was private but we were still close to all the action.

Our 'campaign tent' soon brought a steady stream of envious Scout leaders from as far away as Michigan. They were impressed by our kitchen set up and ample amount of HEAT! Over the weekend, no less than 50 leaders stopped by to see our setup.

The rest of the troop arrived at around 9pm to a warm fire and chocolate fondue. We got organized and were mostly in bunks by 11pm.

Saturday was a full day with 6am reveille, chocolate chip pancakes, flags and on to merit badges. The Scouts worked on Radio, Fire Safety and Orienteering. The Marines came with some machine guns, Humvees, and a chin up bar challenge. Tommy managed to do 8 chin ups -- Mr. Bussell did 12! Joey brought his spotting scopes down so that all could enjoy close up views of red-bellied woodpeckers and a host of ducks.

Alex P. and Riley cooked up 'sizzle burgers' for supper where Scouts had the choice of BBQ, Cayenne pepper or Louisiana Gold hot sauce. In a military tradition, we created a smoke screen in the tent so that no troops could steal our secrets.
