Two plaques honoring the Lenape Native American Tribe will be dedicated on Friday, July 8th in Hunterdon and Warren counties, according to an article in the Hunterdon Democrat. Chief Patrick Waddilove of the Munsee Delaware Nation of Ontario, Canada will be the keynote speaker.

The Lenape lived in this area for generations, and a great deal of the traditions of the Order of the Arrow are based on the Tribe and its customs.

"Chief Patrick Waddilove of the Munsee Delaware Nation of Ontario, Canada will be the keynote speaker" according to the article. "His nation includes the descendents of the Munsee Lenape who occupied the villages along the Musconetcong River in Hunterdon and Warren counties."

From the article:

A plaque will be dedicated borough park at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 8 to memorialize the Lenape village of Pelouesse, which was across the river from Hampton. Another plaque, to honor the village of Musconetcong, will be erected at 11 a.m. at Hackettstown Riverfront Park.

The plaques were produced under the direction of the Historical and Archaeological Committee of the Musconetcong River Management Council, and were created by the Musconetcong Watershed Association. Funding for the plaques was from the Hunterdon County Cultural and Heritage Commission, the New Jersey Historical Commission and the National Parks Service.
